Age Calculator
How old am I today?
If someone asks you how old you are, they usually expect to hear a number of years as the answer to the said question. However, your age is essentially a calculation of the time passed from the moment you were born. So, for example, if you know the exact time of your birth, up to the second, then you can even calculate how many seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months old you are, in addition to years.
How old was I on X date?
Our calculator can calculate the number of years, months, and days you are old! Simply input your birthday into the Birthday Calculator and you will quickly find out your real age!
Calculating your age
Calculating your age is a subtraction problem. We must subtract the date of your birth from the current date.
So in order to find out how many years old you are, you simply subtract the current year from the year you were born in! However, keep in mind that this is not a complete calculation, as we must also consider whether you already had your birthday this year or not. If you already had your birthday, then the calculation is final. If your birthday is yet to come within the current year then your real age is 1 less than what you counted!
How many days old am I?
Calculating how many days old you are can be a tricky problem. The easiest solution might seem to be simply multiplying your age in years by the number of days there are within a year, which is 365 for most years.
Two issues arise with this calculation.
The first one is, that every 4 years we have a so-called leap year, which has 366 days.
The second issue is the fact that this calculation is only a valid one if calculated on the day of your birthday. However, for the rest of the year, this calculation would be off, sometimes even by hundreds of days!
Hence the quickest way would be to do the following:
- Calculate your age in years.
- Multiply the number of years by 365.
- Add all of the days that have passed since your birthday until this day.
- Add 1 day for each leap year that occurred between your birth and today.
Our calculator can help you with this calculation, as it already gives you your age in years, months and days. Hence you can simply multiply the number of years by 365, the number of months by 30.5 (an average of 31 and 30, the two most common numbers of days per month) and then add the number of days to these two numbers. This will result in a fairly good approximation of your age which will be only off by a couple of days due to February having 28 days most years, or 29 days during leap years.
How old will I be in 2050?
In order to find out your age in the year 2050, use our Age Calculator. Input your Birth date and then input a date in the year 2050 in the Age at date section. The calculator will then give you your age at a specific date in the year 2050.
How old is the oldest person alive?
The oldest person alive currently is a French woman by the name of Lucile Randon. She was born on 11 February 1904, lived through both world wars, and managed to live across 2 centuries and 2 millennia.
This would make Lucile 119 years, 10 months, and 13 days old on Christmas eve of 2023.
Some other record breakers include the following people, animals and plants:
Jeanne Calment was the oldest confirmed person in the world. He is a French citizen and when he died in the year 1997, he was 122 years and 164 days old!
The Seychelles giant tortoise seems to be the oldest terrestrial animal on Earth. Scientist suspect that some specimens may be as old as 190 years.
Pinus Longaeva is a tree specie that often lives for several millennia. The oldest recorded specimen is over 4,900 years old, fittingly named Prometheus.
How to live long
A lot of aspects of longevity are genetic and we have little control over them. That does not mean that we cannot take some serious action to ensure a longer life span. One of the most important aspects of ensuring a long and lasting life is keeping your health in check in the long run.
Based on the consensus of medical professionals, the following things should be followed in order to ensure a long and healthy life:
- Avoid unhealthy habits, such as smoking, drinking too much alcohol, and eating unhealthy food that has poor nutrition. Make sure to not stay up too late, cutting down on your sleep.
- Avoid stress when possible and try to incorporate healthy coping strategies in your everyday life, such as meditation, mindfulness and yoga
- Have many friends! Scientists have found out that people with more stable and tighter friend groups tend to live longer.
- Take care of your body and mind. Practice sports, read books, take walks and engage in healthy activities as much as possible.
