Minutes and Days Converter
This converter allows you to convert between minutes and days. In order to use this converter, first select which unit you want to convert from (minutes or days) and which unit you want to convert towards (also minutes or days).
After you selected your units, write in the number of minutes or days you want to convert. Do not forget to choose the number of decimals you want your result to be rounded to. Alternatively, you can skip this step, and then your solution will be rounded up to 15 decimal spaces.
After everything is set up, click on CONVERT and your result will appear below the calculator.
You will receive the option to COPY your result in case you need to input the number elsewhere.
Alongside the solution, you will also receive the conversion rate, which is the key to solving these problems manually, as we will show below.
Converting Between Minutes and Days Manually
The key to converting between units is the ratio the given two units have towards each other. Below, we will show the calculation of both ratios and also examples of how to use them in the calculation of conversions.
Minute to Days Ratio
The first ratio we will try and figure out will be the ratio of a minute to days. First, we will figure out how many minutes are there in a day, as this number will be a whole number, which will make further expressions a little easier.
We know that a day consists of 24 hours. We also know that each hour consists of 60 minutes. Hence a day consists of 24×60 = 1,440 minutes.
Now we can calculate the ratio of a minute to days as 1÷1,440 = 0.00069 rounded to two significant digits.
This means that the ratio is 1:0.00069 or that 1 minute equals 0.00069 of a day.
1 Day to Minutes Ratio
This ratio was already calculated in the section before, as it basically requires expressing the number of minutes in a day.
Hence, the ratio is 1:1,440 which means that 1 day has 1,440 minutes.
EXAMPLE 1: Calculating the Number of Days from Minutes
A movie has a duration of 175 minutes. How many days long is this movie?
Using the ratio we found above, we take 175 minutes and divide them by 1,440. The result of this division is 175÷1,440 = 0.1215 of a day, rounded to 4 significant digits.
EXAMPLE 2 Calculating the Number of Minutes from Days
Marcus is going on a road trip, where he will have to drive for 2.7 days before reaching his destination. How many minutes of driving is that?
We use the above-calculated ratio and multiply 2.7 by 1,440. The result of this multiplication is 2.7×1,440 = 3,888 minutes.
What happens in a minute
A minute is an interesting unit of time. Not as fleeting as a second, yet short enough to go by unregistered, unless something interesting is happening. It is a unit of time that can pass by very quickly when we are watching TV, playing games, or talking with friends, yet can seem very long if we are doing something unpleasant, such as taking a shower in ice cold water or trying to hold our breath.
Here are some interesting things that will happen in the next minute:
In the next minute… |
---|
250 babies will be born around the globe. |
The average person in the world will earn 0.013 USD. |
Your blood will circulate 3 times. |
You will blink between 15 to 20 times. |
2 cars will get stolen around the world. |
2 small earthquakes will take place somewhere on Earth. |
The world will consume almost 12 million pounds of food. |
The world will produce almost a million pounds of trash. |
Now might be a good time to take out your stopwatch and measure that minute. A lot can happen in a minute!
